    Background

This established CRICOS provider had been notified of a combined ASQA re-registration audit and CRICOS review. With international students from multiple countries, the stakes were high and the preparation requirements extensive.

    The Challenge

A dual audit means demonstrating compliance across both the Standards for RTOs and the National Code simultaneously. The provider needed to prepare evidence addressing both frameworks while continuing to deliver training to 400+ students.

Previous audits had been manageable, but the combined nature of this assessment and recent regulatory focus on student support added pressure.

    Our Approach

We developed an integrated preparation approach, mapping evidence requirements across both frameworks to avoid duplication and identify gaps.

Particular focus was placed on student support systems, course progress monitoring, and the integration between RTO and CRICOS requirements. Documentation was organised to make auditor access efficient.

Mock interviews were conducted with key staff to prepare for the student support and academic integrity questions common in combined audits.

    The Outcome

The provider passed both the ASQA and CRICOS components without non-compliance findings. The auditors specifically commended their student support systems and intervention processes.

The integrated approach to compliance has continued, with the provider now managing both frameworks through unified processes.

"Managing a dual audit seemed impossible. The integrated approach showed us that good compliance doesn't mean double the work – it means smart systems that serve both frameworks."
